Glenn Beck Google Bomb: Go Get Them
The Google Bomb mobosphere attack continues against Glenn Beck. His lawyers have filed a domain name dispute attempting to have the domain name “glennbeckrapedandmurderedayounggirlin1990.com” cancelled. I’m not going to link to it, and if you have read the Google Bomb book you’ll know why.
My first thought when I saw the Glenn Beck UDRP (domain name dispute resolution) filing was that the solution to the problem of widespread attacks from an online mob will not be resolved with a domain name dispute. Other domain names without Beck’s name will be used. And now, within days, that has happened. So even if the Mr. Beck wins the domain name dispute the problem persists and continues to grow.
I’m not going to go through everything that is happening. The attackers are using many of the techniques described in the book. The question becomes what can be done to stop this craziness? Even Keith Olberman apparently came to his defense on his show. That’s how outrageous this is. And my thoughts about how to end these attacks coming from what looks like all directions would be the same whether the victim was Glenn Beck or his “good friend” Keith Olberman.
Take a lesson from Oprah. She sued all types of people and businesses after suffering years of having herself falsely portrayed as a virtual snake oil salewoman by the use of her name and valuable brand in the sale of nutraceuticals and the like. And there is a steadfast commitment by her lawyers to hunt down and bring to justice not only those directly involved with the alleged misconduct, but also those who are peripherally involved in supporting and condoning and assisting it. Evidently she reached a point of no return, a point at which she was mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.
That’s the kind of commitment we need Mr. Beck to make. Someone needs to do it. I said in the book that “they will come” and I expect that one day juries all across our country will send a message with huge verdicts that our society is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. It may be a hard and long road. But someone has to stand up and be counted, for understandably selfish reasons. And for admirably unselfish reasons.
There is a lot to be said for protecting society. That’s why Sue and I wrote the book at great risk of becoming targets once again. And that is why those who can afford to protect themselves must step up and be counted. We’ll all owe you a great deal of gratitude, Mr. Beck.
File a John Doe lawsuit (even the domain name is defamatory), subpoena all of the log files from the websites involved and then the IP addresses from ISPs, and name names as you add defendants. Unmask the anonymity of those scofflaws and introduce them to the concept of accountability and personal responsibility in a very public way. Rip their hoods from their heads through the legal process in such a way that they will have to live with their misconduct for the rest of their lives. Mr. Beck, you are in a duel in which their weapon of choice is a bomb and yours a penknife.
Get them, Mr. Beck. Every last one of them. If not for yourself, then for everyone else…the moms and dads, the sons and daughters, the small business owners and everyone else who has ever been the target of this treatment that turns pride to shame and attacks the very essence of our beings. Rest assured that you are not alone, that there will come a rallying cry from all corners of support and spoken and unspoken respect…”Glenn Beck, the guy who stood up for the little guy”.
And years from now, when you are retired and your grandkids jump on your lap and ask what you did during the great war of the web, you won’t have to say…”I waited and watched and hoped that someone else would step up and do what was right”.
No, they’ll already know the answer from school. Grandpa took back the web.
