“Google Bombing” Still Alive and Well
Google announced last year that they had defused the use of Google Bombs. So when we selected the title for the Google Bomb Book, we knew questions might arise.
I went to great detail in explaining the fact that the underlying problem could not be “defused”, and the perception that the technique no longer exists is simply false. Now the “Who is the failure?” Google Bomb of President Obama makes it pretty clear once again that even high profile bombs can, and do, occur. Beginning on page 101 I describe the tool that drives the Google Bomb…anchored text links. And they are a critical and fundamental aspect of Google search results analyses. So the problem is not going anywhere soon.
Google does have a separate program it can run to get rid of the super high profile bombs. Expect that to come soon. But for our purposes of protecting your reputation, you and your business will never be high profile enough to benefit from Google’s protective blanket. That’s reserved for those who, I guess, really matter to Google.
